Job description
We are seeking an experienced Applications Engineer to provide technical support for semiconductor inspection and metrology systems. The role will work directly with customers to develop and optimise inspection applications, resolve process-related issues, support system demonstrations and training, and ensure successful deployment of equipment in manufacturing environments.
This position is suited to an engineer with hands-on experience in wafer, panel, substrate or advanced-packaging inspection, and who is comfortable working in a customer-facing field applications environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide on-site and remote applications support for semiconductor inspection and metrology systems.
Work with customers to troubleshoot inspection, defect-detection, recipe, process-control and yield-related issues.
Develop, optimise and qualify inspection recipes, including defect sensitivity, nuisance reduction and measurement performance.
Conduct customer demonstrations, evaluations and proof-of-concept activities at customer sites and regional applications laboratories.
Plan and execute experiments, collect and analyse data, and prepare technical reports with clear findings and recommendations.
Translate customer process requirements into suitable equipment configurations, inspection strategies and application solutions.
Support system installation, acceptance activities, qualification and ramp-up in collaboration with field service, product engineering and global applications teams.
Deliver technical training to customers to support effective system operation and application use.
Work closely with sales, marketing, engineering and product teams to address customer needs and generate application data for customer engagements, conferences and technical publications.
Travel up to 50%, including extended customer-site assignments when required.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science or a related technical discipline; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
At least five years of experience in semiconductor wafer, panel, IC-substrate or advanced-packaging manufacturing.
At least three years of hands-on experience with semiconductor inspection and/or optical metrology equipment.
Demonstrable experience with one or more of the following: optical defect inspection, AOI, bright-field or dark-field inspection, patterned-wafer inspection, defect review/classification, inspection recipe development, or process-control/yield applications.
Experience in tool qualification, experiment design, data analysis, troubleshooting and process optimisation.
Strong technical problem-solving capability and ability to work independently in a fast-paced customer environment.
Clear written and verbal English communication skills, including the ability to present technical findings to customers.
Willingness and ability to travel extensively.
