Job description
Proactively engage the business to define medium to long term forecasts of work, associated bills of material and requirements.
Develop Category Plans to address the specific business objectives.
Challenge commercial and demand requirements, assessing fitness for purpose and alignment with supply market capability.
Undertake adequate analysis and planning to enable effective supplier negotiations which deliver a sound cost base.
Maintain relationships with strategic suppliers.
Responsible for ensuring early Procurement engagement in significant spend areas/new projects (capital/operational) to maximise Procurement's impact.
Work with Engineering/Non-Engineering groups to rationalise product ranges and standardise specifications where appropriate and beneficial.
Develop deep category, product and supplier knowledge to drive continuous improvement within the (sub)categories managed.
Leverage successful purchasing practices across commodity groups.
Develop relationships and continually work with key stakeholders ensuring that commercial delivery and internal service are equally balanced.
Ensure contingency planning is in place for all key suppliers / services within categories owned.
Responsible for establishing and managing service level agreements and performance metrics between the central Procurement team and Procurement business partners to ensure acceptable service levels are delivered across the BUs.
Provide direction, coaching and support to Category Analysts.
Manage peer relationships with the other category managers to drive maximum benefit in Central Procurement and BU Procurement categories.
Share best practice and knowledge for the category across the business and Procurement organisation.
Responsible for managing category benefits and finalising savings.
Requirements
University degree preferably with a numerical basis.
Extensive Procurement experience in a utilities, government or significant (>1000 employee) commercial enterprise, including tendering and/or Contract Management.
Minimum 5 years Category Leadership experience in Technology and Services Category.
Deep understanding of Category Management process.
Strong communication, negotiation and leadership skills both internally and externally.
