Job description
Develop and advise the company Employee Relations (ER) strategies, influence local leaders in the thought process and the design of our People programs and policies, and operationalize practical efforts to maintain a positive relationship between the company and its people by ensuring all are respected, treated fairly, feel safe and are engaged to bring their best selves to work.
Provide ER expertise, consultation and market insights regarding the labor environment in India, particularly in the state of Gujarat, including benchmarking industry standard processes for people policies and practices, early warning systems for labor risks and non-compliance, and observing trends in labor standards, laws and government regulations for proactive action.
Assess, review, and supervise to ensure the India People Organization and leadership team’s understanding and compliance to local labor laws and international labor standards.
Direct and influence course of action on ER matters including harassment and discrimination, Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI), performance management and workforce optimization. Conduct leader trainings and mentor leaders to meet our global standards.
Lead or coordinate workplace investigations in accordance to our global investigation policy and guidelines, and uphold these standards in the company. Respond to employee issues, grievances and disputes in line with our People Values. Drive expedient resolutions, call out as required, and ensure appropriate and quality communication and documentation is in place.
Plan, implement and assess separations, severance and restructuring activities to guarantee compliance to our globally aligned separation processes and local employment regulations.
Formulate strategy and provide leadership, mentorship and support in industrial relations (labor union relations), while keeping abreast with local trends, industry issues and government priorities to mitigate risk to the company. Represent the company in union negotiations as and when appropriate and act as a liaison between management and union representatives.
Represent the company at labor dispute and arbitration cases and support other labor proceedings and manage such cases from inception to conclusion, consulting with required partners.
Be responsible for Statutory Compliances related to labor at our site and manage our compliance vendor and partners to ensure timely and accurate filings. Support and promote the adoption of Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) labor standards and compliance. Proactively identify and implement actions in advance of any changes to the requirements.
Support labor audits at our sites, including labor audits, from preparation to response and corrective and improvement actions.
Introduce technology solutions to the ER team help drive agility, efficiency, speed of execution, and quality of work.
Additional responsibilities will include people management and development, data analysis and reporting, development and instruction of Diversity, Equality and Inclusion related programs, supporting and promoting the company and RBA Code of Conduct compliance, corporate activities, crisis management and other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Post Graduate Diploma or MBA in Human Resources. Specialization in India labor laws.
Minimum 6 years of work experience relevant to Employee Relations, preferably in the manufacturing or technology sector, in leadership positions. Exposure in regional Gujarat industries and/or factories would be required.
Sound understanding, appreciation and application of Indian labor law and practices particularly in the state of Gujarat, as well as global labor standards and issues. Familiarity with Asia region employment laws is advantageous, as are skills in the management of employment documents.
Direct experience in industrial relations in the state of Gujarat, with strong awareness and understanding of union-related matters.
Attention to detail, proven sense of urgency, independent decision making, high standard of compliance and passionate about doing the right thing for the company and our people.
Good doer, strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, with a good command of written and spoken English, Hindi and Gujarati. Proficiency in other Asian languages is advantageous.
Excellent inter personnel skills; ability to influence and build unquestioning relationships.
Able to travel for work on short notice to any of the company location in India, should the need arise.
