
Job description
Our client is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Group. This role will focus on designing fixtures, machines, and automation equipment to support battery development and manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
Design fixtures, machines, and manufacturing automation equipment for battery development.
Work closely with process development engineers to understand requirements and develop reliable manufacturing process equipment.
Plan, conceptualize, prototype, and fabricate mechanical designs for automation equipment.
Perform mechanical design analysis, including statics, dynamics, kinematics, strength of materials, stress analysis, and thermal analysis.
Develop testing processes and carry out testing and validation of new designs.
Prepare and review concept designs, system architecture, assembly drawings, technical drawings, bills of materials, and specifications using CAD software.
Perform engineering calculations to support design work.
Ensure deliverables meet safe machine design standards and regulatory compliance requirements.
Support pilot and production builds by troubleshooting process and component issues.
Provide engineering support to Manufacturing, Procurement, and Test Engineering to support transfer of designs into production.
Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams, vendors, and contractors.
Maintain detailed documentation throughout the project development and design process.
Operate test, measurement, and basic machine shop equipment when required.
Research and stay current with core technologies and automation trends.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with at least 2–3 years of engineering experience.
Strong mechanical design and documentation skills using SolidWorks 3D design tools.
Hands-on engineering and problem-solving experience across commercial and/or industrial automation projects.
Strong understanding of mechanical systems, products, and engineering concepts.
Knowledge of automation components such as motors, bearings, gearboxes, pneumatics, gas and water components, frame types, sheet metal, and enclosure materials.
Experience using basic machine shop tools such as a mill, band saw, and drill press.
Creative approach to problem-solving with the ability to manage measured risk.
