Job description
We are seeking a highly skilled Surface Treatment Manager to act as the subject matter expert (SME) for all surface finishing processes. This role is responsible for providing technical guidance, driving process optimization, supporting cross-functional teams, and ensuring the highest standards of quality and compliance within an existing production environment. The ideal candidate will lead by technical expertise, ensuring stable, efficient, and customer-compliant operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the technical authority for all surface treatment and finishing processes, including plating, anodizing, passivation, and precision cleaning.
Provide in-depth guidance and troubleshooting support to production and quality teams to resolve process issues and maintain stable operations.
Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality, process capability, cycle time, and cost efficiency.
Oversee plating reliability testing and process validations in line with ASTM, MIL, AMS, and QQN standards.
Review engineering drawings and customer specifications to ensure process alignment and identify improvement opportunities.
Maintain and improve QMS documentation, including PFMEA, control plans, SOPs, and equipment maintenance procedures.
Support customer audits, technical reviews, and provide technical justifications as required.
Mentor and train engineers and operators on process fundamentals, troubleshooting techniques, and best practices.
Requirements
Technical Expertise Required:
Plating: Zinc, Nickel (electroless/electro), Tin, Silver, Copper
Surface treatment: Anodizing (MIL-A-8625), Chromating (MIL-DTL-5541), Passivation (ASTM A967), Electro-polishing (ASTM B912)
Ni-Cu-Ag combination plating
Precision cleaning for aluminum and stainless steel components
Compliance with ASTM B633, B733, B545, B700, QQ-N-290, QQ-S-365D, and related standards
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
Minimum 8 years of hands-on surface treatment experience, with at least 3 years in a technical leadership or managerial role.
Strong working knowledge of process control, defect prevention, and quality improvement in plating and cleaning operations.
Proven ability to implement and maintain QMS systems (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100).
Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
