SK hynix to invest additional 21.6 tln won in Yongin chip cluster

SEOUL, Feb. 25 (Yonhap) -- SK hynix Inc. said Wednesday it will invest an additional 21.6 trillion won (US$15.1 billion) in its semiconductor cluster in Yongin, just south of Seoul, as part of a long-term plan to meet growing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) memory chips.

In addition to the previously committed 9.4 trillion won for the project, the combined 31 trillion won will be used to build its first fabrication plant and related facilities at the Yongin semiconductor cluster, the company said in a regulatory filing.
