Viettel Group has broken ground on what will be Vietnam’s first semiconductor chip fabrication plant, marking a major step in the country’s effort to build end-to-end semiconductor capability.

The project, implemented by Viettel under a mandate from the Ministry of National Defense and aligned with a government resolution, represents Vietnam’s first move into domestic chip manufacturing—widely regarded as the most complex and capital-intensive stage of the semiconductor value chain.
