TSMC has pitched Nvidia, AMD, Broadcom about joint venture to run Intel foundry: sources
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has pitched US chip designers Nvidia, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and Broadcom about taking stakes in a joint venture that would operate Intel’s factories, according to four sources familiar with the matter.
Under the proposal, the Taiwanese chipmaking giant would run the operations of Intel’s foundry division, which makes chips adapted for the needs of customers, but it would not own more than 50 per cent, the sources said. Qualcomm has also been pitched by TSMC, according to one of the sources and a separate source.

South Korea Extends Work Hour Flexibility for Semiconductor R&D to Boost Competitiveness
Previously, there were concerns that South Korea’s legal work-hour restrictions could weaken the competitiveness of its tech industry. According to Chosun Biz, the government now plans to introduce a provision extending the special work-hour exemption for semiconductor research positions from the current 3 months to 6 months per instance
As highlighted by the report, the government plans to allow the semiconductor industry to apply the special extension work increased in authorization period per instance within a month at the earliest.
