Trump and TSMC announce $100 billion plan to build five new US factories
WASHINGTON, March 3 (Reuters) - Taiwan semiconductor company TSMC plans to make a fresh $100 billion investment in the United States that involves building five additional chip facilities there in coming years, its CEO announced with President Donald Trump on Monday.
Taiwan's dominant position as a maker of chips used in technology from cellphones and cars to fighter jets has sparked concerns of over-reliance on the island, especially as China ramps up pressure to assert its sovereignty claims.

Automated Insulin Delivery Technology Receives FDA Clearance for Individuals With Type 2 Diabetes
A next generation automated insulin delivery (AID) algorithm, Control-IQ+ technology (Control-IQ+; Tandem Diabetes Care, Inc.) received FDA clearance for use among individuals aged 18 years and older with type 2 diabetes. The current indication expands on the previous Control-IQ+ clearance for use by individuals with type 1 diabetes.
“Type 2 diabetes affects millions of Americans and increases the risk of serious health conditions, including heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and nerve damage, reinforcing the importance of consistent management of blood sugar," Jordan Pinsker, MD, chief medical officer, said in a news release.

On March 3, 2025, Microchip Technology Incorporated (the "Company") announced additional restructuring actions to reduce costs and resize its manufacturing operations. The Company had previously announced, on December 2, 2024, that it was closing its manufacturing operations at its Tempe, Arizona wafer fabrication facility (referred to as "Fab 2"). With respect to the Fab 2 closure, the Company now expects to be able to shut down the manufacturing operations in May 2025 which is several months earlier than previously expected. The Fab 2 facility and equipment are available for sale by the Company.

Intel delays $28 billion Ohio chip factories to 2030
Feb 28 (Reuters) - Intel's (INTC.O), opens new tab promised $28 billion chip fabrication plants in Ohio are facing further delays, with the first factory in New Albany now expected to be completed only by 2030, the struggling chipmaker said on Friday.
The first factory will begin operations sometime shortly thereafter, between 2030 and 2031, the company said, extending its original timeline by at least half a decade.

SK hynix breaks ground on its 1st fab in Yongin semiconductor cluster
SK hynix said Tuesday it has started construction on its first fabrication plant and relevant facilities at an envisioned semiconductor cluster in Yongin, south of Seoul.
The company broke ground Monday after receiving approval from the Yongin municipal government last week, according to SK hynix's newsroom.
The Yongin semiconductor cluster aims to serve as a key production hub for artificial intelligence (AI) memory chips, integrating SK hynix's fabs with materials and chip equipment companies, as well as other essential infrastructure.
