According to a report in South China Morning Post, China’s leading chip-packaging company, Changjiang Electronics Technology Co. (JCET), recently announced a significant restructuring of its board of directors following the acquisition of a 22.5% stake by the state-owned China Resources Group, as the state conglomerate becomes its largest shareholder.

Samsung Electronics, labor union reach preliminary deal in wage talks
SEOUL, Nov. 14 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Electronics Co. and its largest labor union reached a preliminary agreement on a 5.1 percent pay increase Thursday, officials said, paving the way for ending stalled wage negotiations that have involved a weekslong strike.

AMD to lay off 4% of workforce, or about 1,000 employees
AMD said on Wednesday that it will lay off 4% of its global staff.
AMD had 26,000 employees at the end of last year, according to a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing.
AMD is the second-biggest producer of graphics processing units, or GPUs, behind Nvidia.

Worldwide Silicon Wafer Shipments Increase 6% in Q3 2024, SEMI Reports
MILPITAS, Calif. — November 12, 2024 — Worldwide silicon wafer shipments increased 5.9% quarter-over-quarter to 3,214 million square inches (MSI) in the third quarter of 2024 and registered 6.8% growth from the 3,010 million square inches recorded during the same quarter last year, the SEMI Silicon Manufacturers Group (SMG) reported in its quarterly analysis of the silicon wafer industry.

U.S. ordered TSMC to halt shipments to China of chips used in AI applications, source says
The U.S. has reportedly ordered TSMC to halt shipments of advanced chips to Chinese customers that are often used in artificial intelligence applications.
The Department of Commerce sent a letter to TSMC imposing export restrictions on certain sophisticated chips, of 7 nanometer or more advanced designs, destined for China that power AI accelerator and graphics processing units (GPU), a source said.
It comes just weeks after TSMC notified the Commerce Department that one of its chips had been found in a Huawei AI processor, as Reuters reported last month.
