TSMC cannot make 2nm chips abroad now: MOEA
Taiwan’s technology protection rules prohibits Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC, 台積電) from producing 2-nanometer chips abroad, so the company must keep its most cutting-edge technology at home, Minister of Economic Affairs J.W. Kuo (郭智輝) said yesterday.

Trump likely to uphold CHIPS Act despite his campaign rhetoric, policy experts say
President-elect Donald Trump attacked the CHIPS Act, which provides incentives for chipmakers to set up manufacturing in the U.S., during his 2024 campaign.
However, analysts say Trump probably won’t try to roll back the bill beyond making some modifications to its implementation.

Intel Invests $300M to Expand Chengdu Facility for Server Chip Packaging
Intel announced today an expansion of its packaging and testing facility in Chengdu, China. In addition to packaging and testing for client products, the facility will now offer services for server chips and will establish a Customer Solutions Center aimed at boosting local supply chain efficiency, enhancing support for Chinese clients, and improving response times. Planning and construction for these enhancements are already underway.
