UMC’s Singapore Fab 12i Celebrates First Tool Move-In for New Phase 3 Expansion

UMC today (May 21) held a ceremony at our Fab 12i in Singapore to celebrate the arrival of the first equipment tool at our Phase 3 expansion, marking a major milestone in the construction of the new greenfield facility. First announced in February 2022, Phase 3 is set to be one of the most advanced semiconductor manufacturing facilities in Singapore. Today’s ceremony was attended by representatives from Singapore’s Economic Development Board (EDB), Jurong Town Council (JTC), the Institute of Microelectronics (IME), construction partners, and key equipment and material vendors.

Pharma giant AstraZeneca to build $2 billion manufacturing facility in Singapore

SINGAPORE – Global biopharmaceutical company AstraZeneca intends to build a US$1.5 billion (S$2 billion) manufacturing facility in Singapore, the company said on May 20.

It aims to begin the designing and construction of the facility by the end of 2024, and targets it to be operationally ready from 2029.

The company’s new facility in Singapore will be designed for manufacturing antibody drug conjugates (ADCs) to enhance the global supply of its ADC portfolio, it said in a statement. ADCs are a form of next-generation treatment that can deliver highly potent cancer-killing agents directly to cancer cells through a targeted antibody.

TSMC says construction of first European plant on track to start in fourth quarter

AMSTERDAM, May 14 (Reuters) - Taiwanese chipmaker TSMC, opens new tab plans to start construction of its first European facility in the fourth quarter of 2024, it said on Tuesday.
At a conference in the Netherlands, TSMC's European chief Paul de Bot said the facility in the German city of Dresden, known as European Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (ESMC), was on track for construction to begin this year with production in 2027.

Kevin O'Buckley to Lead Foundry Services at Intel

SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 13, 2024 – Intel Corporation today announced the appointment of Kevin O'Buckley as senior vice president and general manager of Foundry Services, the customer service and ecosystem operations division of Intel Foundry. O'Buckley starts today and becomes a member of Intel’s executive leadership team reporting to CEO Pat Gelsinger. He succeeds Stuart Pann, who will retire from Intel after 35 years of service at the end of May and remain an adviser to support a seamless transition.
