Japan's Toppan to build Singapore chip package substrate plant
TOKYO -- Toppan Holdings plans to build a semiconductor package substrate plant in Singapore and begin operations at the end of 2026, joining several other Japanese substrate makers in boosting capital investment amid booming demand tied to artificial intelligence.

Samsung Electronics denies media report on adopting SK hynix's chipmaking tech
SEOUL, March 13 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Electronics Co., the world's No. 1 memory chipmaker, on Wednesday denied a recent news report that it is planning to use technology that its local rival SK hynix Inc. is using in a way to overtake the market for cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) chips.

Italy finalising $3.3 bln Silicon Box plant deal, source says
ROME, March 8 (Reuters) - Italy is finalising the terms of a state-backed deal with semiconductor firm Silicon Box worth around 3 billion euros ($3.3 billion) to build an industrial site in the country, a source familiar with the matter said on Friday.
The move by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's administration is part of long-standing Italian efforts to attract investment from tech companies since a deal with U.S. firm Intel has never been finalised.

ASML's future growth in Netherlands remains uncertain
AMSTERDAM, March 7 (Reuters) - A crisis meeting between top executives of ASML (ASML.AS), opens new tab and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte led to the CEO of the Netherlands' largest company ruling out quitting the country but failed to resolve issues surrounding its future growth plans.
As chipmakers around the globe pour billions of dollars into setting up new plants to cope with soaring demand, ASML, their largest supplier, has said it will need to roughly double the size of its operations in the coming decade, but faces challenges in doing so at home.

Top 5 Wafer Fab Equipment Makers’ Revenue Declined 1% YoY in 2023; ASML on Top
Top 5 wafer fab equipment (WFE) manufacturers’ revenue declined 1% YoY in 2023 to reach $93.5 billion due to weak memory spending, macroeconomic slowdown, inventory adjustments and low demand in the smartphone and PC end markets. Out of these five WFE vendors, ASML and Applied Materials managed to post YoY growth in 2023 while Lam Research, Tokyo Electron and KLA’s revenues declined 25%, 22% and 8% YoY respectively. Strong DUV and EUV sales drove ASML to the top position in 2023.

Salary threshold for new Employment Pass applicants to be raised to $5,600 from 2025
SINGAPORE – A raft of changes to the foreign work pass system is set to keep up the skills bar of Singapore’s foreign workforce at all levels, while ensuring Singaporeans can get good jobs and enterprises here pursue innovation.
Chief among these changes is an increase in the Employment Pass (EP) qualifying monthly salary for new applicants from Jan 1, 2025, and for those who are renewing it from the year after.
