Global Semiconductor Sales Increase 15.2% Year-to-Year in January
WASHINGTON—March 4, 2024—The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) today announced global semiconductor industry sales totaled $47.6 billion during the month of January 2024, an increase of 15.2% compared to the January 2023 total of $41.3 billion but a decrease of 2.1% from the December 2023 total of $48.7 billion. Monthly sales are compiled by the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS) organization and represent a three-month moving average. SIA represents 99% of the U.S. semiconductor industry by revenue and nearly two-thirds of non-U.S. chip firms.

China's JCET to buy stake in flash memory facility from Western Digital
BEIJING, March 4 (Reuters) - Chinese chip assembly and testing firm JCET Group (600584.SS), opens new tab said on Monday it plans to buy an 80% stake in a Shanghai flash memory facility owned by Western Digital Corporation (WDC.O), opens new tab for about $624 million in cash.

Micron's New York chips project under US environmental review
WASHINGTON, March 1 (Reuters) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is conducting an environmental review of Micron's (MU.O), opens new tab plans for a manufacturing mega campus to make dynamic random-access memory chips in central New York state, the agency said on Friday, opens new tab.
Micron intends to invest up to $100 billion over the next 20-plus years to construct the 1,400-acre (570-hectare) campus in Clay, New York, with $20 billion planned by 2030.

Earlier this week, Apple supplier ams OSRAM announced it would "re-assess its microLED strategy" after a "cornerstone project" was "unexpectedly cancelled." Counterpoint Research's Display Supply Chain Consultants informed MacRumors that this project related to the rumored Apple Watch with a microLED display.

GlobalWafers posts record profit, despite headwinds
GlobalWafers Co (環球晶圓), the world’s No. 3 silicon wafer supplier, on Tuesday posted a record profit for last year on the back of more long-term supply agreements (LTA) with customers, despite industry headwinds.
Net profit grew 28.6 percent to NT$19.77 billion (US$626.2 million), compared with NT$15.37 billion in 2022. Earnings per share jumped to NT$45.41 from NT$35.31 the previous year.

LED manufacturer Rohinni files for Chapter 7 liquidation
Rohinni Inc., a Liberty Lake-based LED manufacturing company, has filed for liquidation under Chapter 7 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court after reporting a 96% drop in revenue in 2023, court filings with the Eastern District Court of Washington show.
