Tesla sealed a $557 million deal on Friday to construct its first grid-scale battery storage station in Shanghai, Yicai reported, bolstering its energy division’s footprint in China. LG Energy Solution, Toyota Tsusho launch battery recycling JV in US

LG Energy Solution Ltd. has set up a battery recycling joint venture with Toyota Tsusho Corp. in the US, deepening the South Korean battery giant’s alliance with the world’s largest automaker, Toyota Motor Corp., in the electric vehicle (EV) sector.

LG Energy Solution on Thursday announced that the JV, called Green Metals Battery Innovations LLC (GMBI), will dismantle and shred battery production scrap to extract black mass, which contains valuable raw metals, such as nickel, cobalt and lithium.

Samsung SDI to supply battery to Europe’s top ESS provider

Samsung SDI announced Wednesday that it has signed a deal with Tesvolt, a leading German manufacturer specializing in commercial energy storage systems (ESS), to supply its all-in-one battery solution, the Samsung Battery Box (SBB).

The company will deliver SBB to Tesvolt by the end of this month. Tesvolt will then integrate the batteries with its own power conversion systems and advanced cybersecurity features to create and provide its own ESS solution for customers.

Chipmaker Frencken to build new $63 million plant in Kaki Bukit

SINGAPORE - Singapore mainboard-listed semiconductor maker Frencken will invest $63 million to build a new and larger five-storey manufacturing facility in Kaki Bukit.

The new site will be built on a plot of land leased by JTC Corporation to its subsidiary ETLA for a period of 33 years, from Aug 18, 2025, the group said in a bourse filing on June 3.

The new facility will “lay a stronger foundation” for the company to continue to expand its mechatronics business in Singapore, and will expand its production resources to support existing and new programmes, as well as strengthen its position with key customers in the coming years, it added.
